| The Sacred Mount of Oropa, declared as Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by Unesco, is constituted by 12 chapels decorated with polychromatic terracotta statues dedicated to the life of Mary. Erected between 1620 and 1720, the Sacred Mount underwent its fullest development in the same period when the Sanctuary reached its climactic expansion. The D’Errico brothers, Pietro Giuseppe and Carlo Francesco Auregio, and the Galliari were amongst the great artists who worked at the Sacred Mount site supervising the sculptural and pictorial work, with the objective of transforming the architectural complex in a path of faith unfolding as a sacralized landscape. |
